The DMX512 protocol was initially developed by the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) in 1985. The current DMX512-A protocol is the revised version issued in 1998. Domestically, China currently adopts the Culture Industry Standard of the People's Republic of China (WH/T 32-2008). This standard strictly defines the data format for control information from the master controller and the physical layer, providing a unified standard interface. The DMX512 protocol is suitable for one-to-multipoint master-slave control network systems. Given the DMX512 data transmission rate requirements and the distributed nature of the control network, its port design utilizes RS-485 transceivers. A single twisted-pair bus enables the connection between the master controller and slave controllers, as well as between slave controllers and fountain equipment. A key characteristic of RS-485 is its use of balanced transmission and differential reception, resulting in high receiver sensitivity and strong anti-interference capability. Signal transmission distances can reach up to a hundred meters. If the master controller is excessively distant from slave controllers, repeater amplifiers or signal isolation amplifiers can be used to boost the signal. The DMX512-A protocol stipulates that the interconnection between the master controller and slave controllers, and between slave controllers and devices, employs a bus-type network topology. Since data flows unidirectionally from the master controller to slave controllers and then to the fountain devices, there is no contention for bus access among slave controllers or devices that could cause information blockage. China's culture industry has established the DMX512-A control protocol (WH/T 32-2008) as a unified industry standard. Fountain control systems should also refer to and implement this standard.
